1. Bathe your pet regularly. The frequency of bathing will vary depending on your pet’s breed, age, and lifestyle. However, most pets should be bathed at least once a month.

• Use a mild shampoo and water that is not too hot.
• Be sure to rinse all of the shampoo out of your pet’s fur.
• Use a conditioner to help keep your pet’s fur soft and shiny.

2. Brush your pet’s fur regularly. Brushing helps to remove mats and tangles, and it also distributes natural oils throughout the fur. This helps to keep your pet’s fur healthy and shiny.

• Use a soft-bristled brush that is appropriate for your pet’s fur.
• Brush your pet’s fur in the direction of the growth of the fur.
• Be sure to brush your pet’s fur all the way to the skin.

3. Clean your pet’s ears regularly. Ears can become dirty and infected, so it is important to clean them regularly.

• Use an ear cleaning solution that is designed for pets.
• Be sure to follow the instructions on the ear cleaning solution.
• Do not use cotton swabs to clean your pet’s ears.

4. Trim your pet’s nails regularly. Long nails can be uncomfortable for your pet and can also cause them to scratch furniture or other objects.

• Use a nail clipper that is designed for pets.
• Be sure to trim your pet’s nails just above the quick, which is the pink part of the nail.

Since 2006, April 11 has been celebrated as National Pet Day. National Pet Day has been recognized as a time to celebrate the joy that pets bring to our hearts. It has also been a day to help create public awareness regarding homeless animals in rescues and shelters awaiting their forever homes. The unconditional love and loyalty that our pets give us is something that can never be replicated or replaced. National Pet Day is a time to celebrate our furry family members and help those in need.

Celebrating National Pet Day can be a super enjoyable experience for the entire family. Share photos of your pets with friends and family as well as all of your social media. Make sure to use the hashtag #NationalPetDay. Visit a local shelter to donate time, supplies, or even adopt a new furbaby! You can also help those in need to buy supplies, pet food or even donate to a vet hospital to pay for healthcare. Recognizing the importance of pets in our lives and helping those in need is the foundation of National Pet Day. Make sure to celebrate with your family to make change in your community and help spread the word of the importance of pets and their roles in our lives.

Having pets helps families live healthier lives. It helps us relieve stress, stay fit, and they help keep us company. Cats, dogs, reptiles, farm animals, birds, or even fish all have important places in the family unit. The human animal bond is a friendship unlike any other. Pets offer love without any judgment and they provide us with a sense of security and comfort. How many cars have you been behind and noticed a stick figure family on the back windshield that has an animal included in their family unit? Almost every single one!

Your donation is helping our neighbors receive the help they need for the furry members of their families. Your support helps families take care of cherished pets’ needs and allowed us to expand our reach to the community of seniors with pets.

Being the parent of a pet adds to financial hardship in these tough times. But because of you, parents of pets are receiving more support than ever. In 2020, we worked with partners such as the Amazing Grace Food Pantry to give approximately 425 pounds of supplies, treats, and toys to beloved pets in need.

2020 brought the parents of pets into imminent danger. Because of this, we also helped supply reusable masks to our pack recipients, frontline workers, and patients at Texas Oncology and Radiation.

Thank you for helping us spread extra love and kindness throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex this past year.

Thanks to your contributions, we were able to send holiday cards to residents of the St. Jude Center and supply clients of Sharing Life Community Outreach with pet care packages totaling 250 pounds during the 2019 holiday season. Your generosity also allowed us to share supplies with Envoy Hospice, Lifeway Hospice, and Carrollton Animal Services over the course of the year.
